The Padua College chapel was conceived by a collaborative team comprising smith + Tracey, Orchard Design and the college leadership team.
The goal was to create an engaging space for worship, prayer, recitals and performance. The design team recognised that the chapel needed to be flexible, intimate and welcoming if it was to become a focal activity centre in the college environment.
To this end the organic plan form was developed and a seamless integration of the internal and external spaces planned. Natural materials, stone, timber, rusted steel and masonry were selected to complete the design concept.
The chapel accommodates 150 people and was completed in 2009.
