Faith is integral to the education philosophy and community of Kolbe Catholic College. This is reflected in the ethos and charism of the College and St Maximilian Kolbe. We strive to create a joyous environment with faith, courage and compassion, where all who learn, and all who teach, can expand their minds and hearts in striving toward academic and personal excellence. As such, our Chapel is an important focal point of school life.
The preparation of the design of the Chapel was an inclusive process involving all the stakeholders including the College Leadership Team, Faith Leadership and the community. The process included a number of workshops and dialogue with the design team and the College. A number of presentations were made to ensure effective communication and engagement with all parties. This enabled the school and our community to articulate our aspirations, engage with and evaluate the consultant’s response.
Our expectations included a Chapel that would express our philosophy and values in this important building which combined faith and education within a school campus. The Chapel design has met our need for a Chapel to service liturgical services and as a space for reflection and celebration. The simplicity and restraint of design ensures that our College community always identifies with the true purpose of the Chapel and recognises the symbolism associated with St Maximilian Kolbe.
