SITA Advanced Waste Recycling Facility

SITA’s Advanced Waste Treatment (SAWT) plant at Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek is on approximately 8 hectares of SITA’s existing landfill site. The new advanced waste recycling and treatment facility has the capacity to process up to 134,000 tonnes/annum of household domestic waste.

Green waste is transformed into mulch and returned for community reuse. Metals, glass, ceramics and plastics are separated and either crushed to powder form or baled for onward further processing.

The operational processing equipment housed within the building was coordinated and procured from France.

The project has an enormous positive environmental and community impact and highlighted that sustainability can be realised through many different entrepreneurial visions.

Completed in 2009, the $50 million advanced waste treatment plant established Western Sydney residents as the most effective recyclers in the state.
