Virgin Australia Lounges

Smith + Tracey commenced working with Virgin Blue in 2002 in the collaborative development of the passenger experience from terminal arrival to the aircraft door. This resulted in the design and project management of Virgin’s first lounge product which was rolled out across the major ports in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide.

All project sites required major interior refurbishment of the lounge spaces for their travelling members.

The design philosophy was to provide a sophisticated, inviting and fun, multi-zone environment that catered for the individual needs of their members and frequent flyers.

When the airline rebranded as Virgin Australia it looked to extend the lounge offering to some of the highly trafficked, smaller ports. Known as ‘Lounge Lite’ Smith + Tracey undertook the creation of a new lounge at MacKay airport to accommodate the FIFO mining clientele.

The lounges provided work spaces, meeting rooms, self-service cafe and dining areas, lounge seating and entertainment areas.
