The design approach of the new Jewish Care Senior Living Precinct in Carnegie emerged from a consultative and collaborative process that explored Jewish Care’s aspirations for its community. Through investigation, analysis and assessment of information gathered from the learnings achieved from the previously completed St Kilda Road project, a narrative emerged around the integration of cultural values and the expectations of the Jewish community.
The building is designed to create a strong identity in a proud and respectful way. It encourages the Jewish approach of engagement through a meaningful life and an inclusive and cohesive community. We recognise the important contribution and legacy this precinct has for ‘supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of the Jewish community of Victoria by providing excellent support and care for individuals and families’.
The building comprises 2 storeys plus a basement car park and services. Residents experience Jewish Care’s best practice philosophy of the ‘hand in hand’ model of care. This is an innovative model where residents are supported in small ‘family’ groups in a heimish environment. The 120 beds are divided into 8 x 15 bed houses offering a mix of accommodation types – Traditional, Classic and Choice units. Residential houses have self-contained lounge, dining, Kosher kitchen and recreational spaces – promoting inclusion, dignity, wellbeing and self-help.
The design includes generous garden courtyard spaces, 30 premium suites to the rear and boutique lifestyle facilities including an impressive Shule, welcoming café, club lounge, gym, beauty salon and cinema.
Our new…… “building is operating very well with elders and their families delighted with their new home. The 15 bed houses are providing a very homelike environment and the common areas offering an opportunity to meet other elders in the gym, club lounge or library.
Overall the facility is a quantum leap forward for our elders.”
