Attended the recent “Hogeweyk Care Concept” seminar to learn more about the integrated care model and to understand how advanced dementia residents can maintain ‘normality’ in their life in a nursing home environment. The very informative presentations from be and OFS explained the concept and impact on dementia residents; evidence-based measurement tools to assess dementia care services; and how the integral care model can operate in Australia, within ACFI funding. De Hogeweyk creates a residential scaled village, where collocated residents are profiled to better match social values and lifestyles, with each house designed internally to reflect each group. Every day independent activities occur in each house and through the village offerings, including self-shopping and individualised cooking, to create residents with a normalised and recognisable sensory experience. Quality of life is achieved through the integration of six pillars that creates a diverse and engaging environment specifically activating a meaningful life for dementia residents.
