St Vincent’s Care Services

Smith + Tracey are grateful for the opportunity to work closely with St Vincent’s Care Services in the refurbishment of Lourdes Aged Care Facility in Toowoomba Qld.

The tired existing 25 year old building contained single rooms with shared ensuites which were outdated and institutional in nature.  The residence has now been fully upgraded providing all bedrooms with private ensuites, some rooms having the option for couples accommodation and issues associated with managing COVID in residential aged care addressed.

The project consisted of – refurbishing and extending 88 resident rooms and ensuites, common lounges and small sitting areas, dining areas and serveries.  The front of house areas have also been reinvigorated with the reception and main entry creating a new welcome and with new Covid preventative measures being incorporated. The large chapel and associated activity room, linking corridors and all staff and administration areas have been refreshed.

The facility has been totally transformed and the residents can now associate to the colours, art works and furnishings which provide a homely aesthetic.  The revitalization of the building and its spaces has provided opportunities for improved and varied lifestyle and socialization opportunities from the introduction of a bar area, demonstration kitchen and “pool room”.

The S+T team worked closely with Midson Constructions to completely refurbish the three large buildings, and associated major service upgrades.  The whole facility was successfully able to function and remain operational whilst the 11 separate stages of construction progressed through Covid lockdown months. The buildings have been fully transformed and feedback from the residents and staff has been very positive for their new inviting and homely environment.
