The Crest Education STEAM Building was developed in response to the College’s STEAM education program and forms part of the second stage of the CREST Senior Learning Campus. Smith + Tracey was engage to design a senior learning environment that integrated art, design, technology and science. Through rigorous planning and timeless architecture expression, the building delivers an inspiring environment that fosters independence, connection and real-world readiness.
Our design seamlessly integrates science, technology, engineering and art within a dynamic, collaborative setting. It supports inquiry-based learning and encourages collaboration across disciplines, preparing students for future pathways beyond school. Exposed structure, flexible teaching spaces and embedded sustainability initiatives transform the building itself into a teaching tool.
The building is organised with clarity around a central hub that visually and physically connects the learning spaces supporting hands-on, interdisciplinary learning aligned with the school’s STEAM vision. Flexible studios and workshops support a range of teaching approaches, allowing technology spaces to transition between practical and theory learning, while art studios adapt from individual work settings to open studio configurations. Positioned with street frontage, the building presents learning as a visible and celebrated part of the College community.
The future-focused design redefines the senior learning environment, empowering student choice and preparing learners for life beyond school.
“Smith + Tracey’s design of the STEAM building exceeded our brief to create a learning environment that reflects the world beyond school, delivering a superior quality, visually coherent and publicly engaged facility that supports our mission and provides enduring cultural and educational benefits.”
